No family can have a "personal" tradition, and adding or deleting a holiday from any family will also add or delete it from all families' calendars. Note that holidays are set across an entire save file. Any given day can only have, at maximum, a single holiday. Lengthening a season adds time to the end of it, while shrinking a season length will push around (or even outright delete) any custom holidays you had set. However, take care when adjusting the length of your Seasons through the options menu. Holidays can be added or deleted any time. Succeed or fail and the Sim will draw a powerfull buff or debuff respectively. You will have one week in-game (regardless of season lengths) to do this resolution. During a holiday with that tradition, your Sim may declare their intention to improve themselves a specific way. Clicking the correct object or person will bring up the pie menu as usual, but any tradition-based interaction will be at the top level of the interaction menu even if it's not normally an available command. Seasons makes it easy for you to participate in traditions. If you head out to community lots, you may even see AI-controlled Sims participating in the holiday's traditions too! Holidays apply to the entire save file, including Sims in other neighborhoods. Sims who don't may draw debuffs for not participating. Sims who perform traditions they like on the holiday, especially any favored tradition, will draw a moodlet buff and be in a fantastic mood. When it turns solid, the Sim is done with that tradition, although they can keep doing it if you wish to give the command. If the gold checkmark blinks, it means the Sim wants to do the same tradition more times. If performed at all, you'll see a gold checkmark on the tradition icon. Some traditions may need to be performed multiple times. You can mouseover any tradition icon to see a small popup to tell you what it is. On the day of the holiday, a box will appear in the top-left corner of the scene showing the name of the holiday, its time range, and the traditions it encourages. This can vary based on their Traits or random chance. Sims will want to do the activities you suggest when the holiday comes, but most Sims will have a specific tradition they want to do. The traditions are the most important part of this screen. You can set the name of your holiday, its icon, whether the holiday grants you time off from work and school, and the traditions your holiday follows. You'll be presented to a screen similar to the Create a Club screen from the Get Together Expansion Pack. Next, click the orange Plus button on the left side of the calendar. If you're not satisfied with the just the default holidays, you can make your own! To do this, open the calendar, then click the day where you want to set the holiday. The day before a holiday or social event happens, a pop-up box will appear above your calendar informing you what's coming to give you a full day to prepare. By default the game ships with many common real-world holidays at roughly their appropriate time on the calendar, though they'll have more generic names. The main draw of the calendar however is in the holidays. Consult your calendar to make sure you don't plan an outdoor party for a rainy day! For the first time in The Sims 4, you can use the controls on the left to plan a social event such as a wedding in advance. It shows the current season and when it ends, as well as the Weather and Temperature for the next seven days. The calendar has several useful features.
